Houston Stock Show AKA Spring Break 2012

Houston is a long way from home!  We left early Saturday  for Bellville.  It took 9 hours to get there.
We ate a little, (Thanks for the cookies Nana!)
slept a little,
and played games.
We stayed in a yucky motel at night and at the fair grounds during the day for the weekend.  Boy did it rain!  Smoke has never seen rain like that.  Monday morning we headed on into Houston.  The guys, steers and Karson and Brook stayed in line for 6 hours waiting to unload.  The traffic was crazy...so many people!  The weather was ok - hot and humid.  We spent most of our time in the show barn.  It was almost cold in there!  And talk about huge - that place was big.  1200 steers, 1500 pigs, 2 show rings and TONS of vendors were all in the same building!  It was quite a place.  Our hotel was withing walking distance which made it nice.
Here are Karson, Reagyn and Brook hanging out before Karson showed.

Denae has the right idea!!

Karson showed well, considering.  As they came into the ring, Smoke headed for the potted plants.  Yes, the PLASTIC potted plants!  It took a couple of ring men to help Karson get Smoke away from there.  I guess he's really never seen anything green before!!  Then he got Smoke set up perfectly.  We were just outmatched.  He looked little compared to the rest in his class.  They broke the weights at the wrong place.  Lanny turned in 1147 lbs which was the bottom of the middleweight class of the ABCs.  He really wanted to be the heaviest in the lightweight class, but had no control over the break.  Just bad luck.
They both did well, but I was glad it was over.  Lanny was incredibly stressed out and hard to be around! Once we showed, he relaxed and had fun.
Reagyn was particularly fond of the ledge in our room.
Reagyn loved pulling Nae in her wagon!!
The kids got to swim 3 days in a row!  They loved that.
The girls got all dolled up at the show...they both got colored hair extensions and very glittery eye shadow!

Saying goodbye to Smoke was difficult for Karson.  He tried to hold the tears back.  I was kinda sad too!  He's my favorite steer so far.  He's had the most personality and was so friendly!

Reagyn wasn't sad - she said goodbye and went on.

One afternoon we decided to go to the Galleria.  There is an ice rink there and the kids wanted to try ice skating.  When we got there the rink was closing!!  We got ice cream and came up with plan B.
The girls and I decided to go to Build a Bear.  They had so much fun stuffing, bathing and dressing their bears.  Roxy and Bella were too cute

We had lots of family time and made many memories!
